This Week's Ministry Message

    Music Ministry Message

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:9-13

Being a follower of Jesus takes intentionally. Love, kindness, compassion, and serving are such powerful marks of being a Christian. These take practice as we live out our faith. In fact, we are taught that the greatest commandment is to Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor as yourself. As we are faithful in serving and honoring others, we share the hope and joy of Christ as well as receive it.

Lisa Weier, one of our congregation members, has a passion for sharing love and kindness. She is part of the organization called Random Acts Matter who is sponsoring Random Acts of Kindness the week of February 13-19th. You may want to be part of this special week by serving, spreading the word, or nominating someone you know you may need of a random act of kindness. Contact Lisa for a sign at lmweiered@gmail.com. Check out the opportunities to share love and kindness with our local neighbors and how to nominate someone in need at randomactsmatter.com

There are also many opportunities through Baker Memorial UMC you may think about during the Random Act of Kindness Week or at any time of the year. Our Missions Team is very intentional about providing consistent mission opportunities to serve others with love, compassion, and kindness. Below are just a few. Who knows, what may start off as a one-time act of kindness, may lead to more. CLICK HERE for more details.

    •  Day Guest Ministry: Pick a day to provide the much-needed groceries for any Tuesday/Thursday meal. Simply buy the groceries and drop them off. Sign up here for a day.
    •  Meals for Lazarus House: 2nd Tuesdays, provide food for a meal or make sack lunches
    •  Northern Illinois Food Bank: 3rd Mondays, serve 9am-12pm
    •  Meal on Wheels: Bring a meal to a senior citizen
    •  Blood Drive: Mark your calendar for May 18 to give blood

These acts of service are a means of sharing God’s love and kindness and will not only bring spiritual fervor to you but also to those you serve.
